With General Motors recent bankruptcy announcements and plans for restructuring their existing plants, many local Michigan jobs will be lost; 6,600 of the 9,000 jobs to be exact. This will bring a devastating blow to the Pontiac, MI and Oakland County areas.

Pontiac, MI – Lee Contracting will assist many Big 3 suppliers in the retooling of Fiat, Chrysler, and General Motors in there upcoming events. Lee Contracting is one of the largest general contractors in the state of Michigan.
With all of the plant closings, layoffs, and cutbacks happening across the nation, especially within the heart of the Big 3, Michigan, change is happening as well. The government has issued Fiat - Chrysler and General Motors with a stimulus package in order to supply each own parts suppliers with funds for retooling.
There are about 4000 total automotive suppliers in with these major companies use to stay alive within the automotive industry. As the Big 3 have suffered tremendously, so also have their parts suppliers. The whole nation has felt the affects of this downturn.
Recently Fiat has stressed its plan to take an initial 20% stake in Chrysler LLC will not involve any cash payment, but has not disclosed the cost of retooling plants to produce its own-brand cars, a key part of securing U.S. regulatory approval by an April 30 deadline. Fiat will have to invest up to $500 million to convert any Chrysler plant in the U.S. to produce its own cars, according to an independent analysis.

So far, automakers and parts suppliers have submitted $44.6 billion in requests, including $10.3 billion from GM and $6 billion from Chrysler. This retooling program is in addition to the $17.4 billion in emergency loans promised by the government to General Motors and Chrysler.
